98.5 The Sports Hub
WBZ-FM is a commercial sports radio station in Boston, Massachusetts. The station serves the Greater Boston area and most of New England. It is ranked as the No. 1 sports radio station in Boston by the Nielsen Audio Ratings. The station has several features that help make it an impressive sports radio station. These include new studios and programming.
Nielsen Audio Ratings
The May 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings were just released. The survey covered the week of April 28 through May 25. Here are the key takeaways from the data, including the top stations in each market and a comparison of spoken-word stations in the top twenty markets. The top sports talk stations were not surprising.
In the men 25-54 demographic, 98.5 The Sports Hub dominated the ratings. It took the top spot in all timeslots, and dominated the morning, midday, and afternoon shifts. While the competition also earned a top spot in these time slots, 98.5 The Sports Hub took the number one spot overall.
Boston’s No. 1 sports radio station
If sports talk radio is the way to go, Boston is in luck. WBZ-FM is the flagship station for the New England Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, and Revolution sports radio networks, and has been for many years. The station’s lineup includes Bob Socci, Scott Zolak, and Marc Bertrand, as well as color commentator Paul Mariner.
WBZ-FM has been rated the No. 1 sports radio station in the city, and for good reason. The station’s afternoon drive program, “Felger & Mazz,” had the No. 1 spot among men 25-54, and won morning, midday, and afternoon drive time slots. In addition to morning drive, “The Greg Hill Show” was seventh in the morning, and “The Ticket” finished third in the midday time slot.
New studios
The 98.5 Sports Hub recently moved into new studios in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The new studios offer more than just studio space. The studios also feature a constant stream of guests and TV shows simulcast on NBC Sports Boston. The studios are located on the front of the building, which is accessible by elevator or stairs.
The studios are located on Morrissey Boulevard. The move is the result of a merger between Entercom and CBS Radio. The Sports Hub was part of the merger. The station had previously been in the former CBS Radio space. However, it had to stay in the space for a few weeks while the station changed ownership. That move meant that the station was two floors down from the new WMJX studios. The sports talk station worked with the Beasley engineering team to move into new studios.
Programming
98.5 The Sports Hub is an award-winning Boston sports station. In 2011, it won the NAB Marconi Radio Award as the “Sports Station of the Year.” The station is owned by CBS RADIO, the largest radio network in the country. The company operates 130 radio stations in most major markets. Among its other stations are WBZ-AM and WZLX-FM in Boston.
Since the station’s launch in 2009, 98.5 The Sports Hub has had great success in ratings. During the fall 2009 Nielsen Audio ratings, it finished first overall in the men 25-54 demographic. Its afternoon drive program “Felger and Mazz” had a 20.7 share during that period, the highest in the Boston market.
